Politics is no way to get rich. At least, not if you?re doing it right. However, being rich ? from a spouse or your career before public service ? certainly makes things a lot easier. And while some of America?s politicians have a net worth that?s no higher than most, plenty of others clearly have had a lot of success in other parts of their life.

Fortunately for you, every member of Congress has to make annual filings on their finances to ensure they aren?t misusing their office, and GOBankingRates has gone through them to determine which politicians are among the wealthiest. The financial filings aren?t precise ? assets and liabilities are reported as a range ? but the study estimates their net worth by taking the mid-point of the highest and lowest possible results.

So, is your state more like Virginia, where the wealthiest politician ? Mark Warner ? can boast a $200 million estimated net worth? Or New Mexico, where Tom Udall?s net worth is just over half a million? Here?s a closer look at which state?s richest politician is the, well, richest.
